The sun rose quietly over the mountain and bathed the peaceful town below. Dave and I woke about 8:00 am. Sitting on the patio of their 5th floor apartment provides a spectacular view. With coffee that my husband brought me, all is well on this Christmas morning.
Coming to Puerto Rico has simplified Christmas this year. I am enjoying spending time with friends and focusing on the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! We enjoyed a late breakfast together and opened our Christmas presents. Aquilena and Jorge gave Dave coffee. I'm not sure that there is a more perfect gift for Dave. That man can put away the coffee. They also got us a framed picture of Puerto Rico. We loved it. As we travel about, I enjoy looking at artwork that represents the country that we are visiting and always think that we should buy something. Now we have our first piece of artwork. One of Dave's presents turned out very useful for me. I had only packed T-shirts and one fancy dress. Jorge had been invited to his boss' home on Christmas Day at 4:00 in the afternoon for a fiesta (party) and of course we were invited as well. I know enough about Hispanic culture that a t-shirt would not have gone over too well with the ladies.
Dave had given me to beautiful shirts, one red and one purple with sparkles at the top. So, I wore the red one in honor of Christmas Dave. At lunch we had pork and hallacas (a typical Venezuelan Christmas food). They were delicious! Dave especially liked them which made me so happy. The party was great. We were welcomed with open arms and made to feel at home. They served great food and had a live band. Dave and I danced to the music. Those dancing lessons are defiantly paying off. After the party, we headed back to Fiona and the apartment. The evening ended as it had begun, quietly in the apartment with good friends.
