I changed my mind and worked the election polls this year for the Spring Primary in Bullitt County. If you remember I pretty much declared myself as a "never again" poll worker after two attempts in Jefferson County.
I'm not sure what changed my mind, but some things that have had influence over my decision is the fact that I really like the people of Bullitt County. Another thing is that It was already a day off from my regular job. And to be honest, it is a paid gig. I attended the training as an unplaced alternate. About a week before the election I received a call saying that I would be the Republican Judge at Shepherdsville Elementary which is where I work so I was thrilled. The day still began too early. The day was still way too long, but I had fun. I enjoyed hearing the stories of the women that I worked with. Most of them had many years of elections under their belts so they knew the ropes . The voter turnout was appallingly low. Our precinct only had 8% of the registered voters turn out. The state of politics in America continues to be a concern to me. The hoplelessness that many people feel that their voice does not matter is sad. I will probably be back at the polls in November.
